Whitest Sand in the World

While we love Manly, we were happy for another weekend away. This weekend we went a few hours south to Jervis Bay with some friends where we camped right by the water. We thought for a moment that we would be stuck sleeping under the stars with the killer spiders and possums (which one of our friends said are endangered - after a bit of research I've found that they are protected native pests (read giant rats) with a few species being endangered) after our tent poles snapped from the wind Saturday afternoon (I guess that is what you get for buying the $50 Big W special). We managed to piece it back together with duck tape…WV chrome always a lifesaver!

Jervis Bay is home to Hyams beach which has the whitest sand in the world…literally, its in the Guinness Book of World Records. The water is turquoise and crystal clear too. We spent the day there on Sunday and had fun laying out, swimming, and had a picnic lunch.

On Saturday we got to go on our first dive together. Although, Katie was scared of her first boat dive by herself and she almost didn’t make it. But it was well worth it. Jervis Bay has some great rock reefs with large swim throughs. Every time we turned the corner we saw huge schools of fish. There were many beautiful fish, starfish, and vegetation to see but the best sighting of the day was the giant stingray. We also saw some dolphins from the boat on our way back.

Katie brought a cake for Jared’s bday to share with our friends at Jervis Bay that she made from scratch or should we say helped make. Our friend Louise is an excellent cook and offered to help Katie make it. The cake was absolutely delicious…strawberries and cream. However, she didn’t realise the frosting would turn out pink as it was strawberry flavoured. Unfortunately, we had all the unpacking to do this week as well as cleaning for our first apartment inspection so Jared's actual birthday was spent just hitting up a dinner of Indian curry.
