Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving is always a hard time for us here. We of course had to work but tried to make the most out of thanksgiving...
Thursday night after work we decided just to have a simple dinner at home and had spaghetti in the pantry....which somehow Katie managed to ruin (don't ask me how). So once again we were confined to ordering Thai delivery, which just so happens to be one of the things we are very thankful for!
Friday night was better as we had made a reservation for Cafe Sydney, one of our favorite restaurants...right on the balcony to enjoy the views of the Harbour Bridge. We took Dan & Chez to celebrate the festivities and kicked it off with a few friday night drinks in Circular Quay. Cafe Sydney is a bit expensive and we went all out...Moreton Bay Bugs and Crab Cakes for entrees, steaks for dinner, a few bottles of wine and of course dessert. But it was on KPMG, as we used up a gift certificate Katie got for one of her jobs.
But Saturday was the true traditional thanksgiving celebration at Melissa's annual Deep Fat Fried Turkey Feast. AJ took care of the turkey while the ladies made all the fixings...mashed potatos and gravy, green bean casserole, sweet potato casserole, stuffing, salad, etc. And Melissa made a delicious spread of pies for dessert including apple pie and pumpkin! It was nearly as good as home and definitely felt more like home despite that it was sweltering hot outside and most of the people there aren't even American. They never get the idea of a pumpkin pie...and now that I think about it, it is slightly weird to have a vegetable pie And they certainly dont get eating marshmellows on sweet potatos! Lisa thought we were joking and were going to laugh at her if she took a bite until she saw us dig in as if we hadn't eaten for a year.
