30 Years
This week was Jared's 30th Birthday. As Jared says "30 down, 70 to go" and that's the way I like to think of it...70 more years. Some say your 30's are your best years. I don't know if that is true but I definitely think that there is something to be said about getting wiser and more comfortable with yourself. Not to mention being more financially stable to do the things that you want to do. So far i think each year is better than the last. I hope that the next 70 years just keep getting better and better. I hate to think of ever getting to the point where it is just all downhill.
Usually, I take a week for my birthday and as Jared is the most important and special thing to me, I wanted take the week to celebrate him.
Wednesday - Wednesday was his actual birthday so we kicked the week off with a small Mexican dinner at ours for a few frieneds. I made chicken tortilla soup and taco salad with fresh home-made guacamole and salsa to go with. And of course, cupcakes for dessert from my favorite bakery Babycakes.
Thursday - St Patty's Day! I love this day and since Jared thinks he is part Irish, we had to celebrate. Unfortunately, its not the same event here as it is in Pittsburgh, NYC or Boston. But there is a small Irish Pub in the rocks, The Hero of Waterloo, which we love and was sure to be celebrating.
Friday - Jared loves diving but I am only a fair-weather diver. I will go in the great barrier or fiji where it is warm, you can see forever, and the fish and coral are breathtaking and exciting. I hate diving in Sydney but its not my birthday. So I sucked it up and joined Jared and a few friends for a night dive off of Palm Beach. And I have to say it was beautiful in the boat with a full moon shining off the ocean. But jumping into the ocean in the pitch black with nothing but a torch? And isn't that shark feeding time? Luckily (or not), the ocean swell was massive and it was all I could do to sit on the boat staring at the horizon and trying not to spew my lunch. So I missed out. Boo.
Saturday morning - I arranged for Jared and 10 of his mates to go deep sea fishing for the day. I couldn't control the weather though and unfortunately it rained all day. But it was warm rain and the boys still had fun. Lots of snapper, flounder, and flathead for their dinners.
Saturday night - The big night out. We had about 30 friends all meet up at Charlie Bar for a night of drinks and dancing. A good way to end the week.
