New Flat
After two months in temporary housing (which must be a record), we have finally moved into our own flat. It is in a neighborhood call Seefeld, full of tree lined streets, some cute shops and only a block from the lake.
We've managed to sort out the main furniture and put up lights (the apartments dont come equipped with lighting fixtures here!) but it took us a few weeks. And we are exhausted. There is still quite a bit to do and I am sure when our shipping finally arrives it will feel more like home.
But with moving always comes some of the biggest challenges...
The first...trash. Yes thats right, I said trash. Apparently, Switzerland only allows you to throw out trash in special trash bags that they keep locked and hidden under the cashier's desk with the cigarettes. Go figure. It only took me three trips to the grocery store scouring the shelves to figure it out. And thats just the normal trash. It took us a whole weekend to break down the IKEA boxes to the proper format and tie them up in respective string for cardboard.
The second...laundry. Another one that shouldnt be that hard. But we quickly learned that the unwritten rules of ettiquete when it comes to doing laundry. As all buildings have shared laundry, you must abide by these rules.

- You are not allowed to do laundry after 10pm or on Sundays
- You must sign up ahead of time to do laundry on a specific day. As there is 10 apartments and only 6 available days each week, you can see how this may be a problem. Especially when you consider the nature of the Swiss and realize that they like to sign up weeks in advance.
- When your time is up, you must remove all items from the laundry room even if you still have drying on the line. And even if there is more than enough line to accomodate others.
