Meeting Riley
For the last nine months we have really enjoyed watching Riley develop in our monthly sonograms - seeing and hearing his heart pump, watching him grow, as well as getting to see him kick or hiccup. He was a very active guy the whole time. Of course, we were very excited and curious to meet the little guy who had been kicking so much.
Like everything so far, Riley was right on time. My water broke the day after his due date and he arrived the next morning via caesarean.Up to this point, the whole experience didn't seem real. I was so scared to actually meet him that I threw up and cried. But when they brought him over, he was adorable and I did fall in love. He is a very handsome baby - good skin, great coloring, round face. Everyone says he looks just like papa but we are still waiting to see for sure.
Our first week together was spent in the hospital just hanging out and getting to know each other. Even Jared worked from the hospital. It was great - no need to worry about making dinner, cleaning or anything else other than concentrating on Riley. Love the Swiss healthcare system.
After a week we headed home to start getting Riley used to his new home. We strapped him in our Moby Wrap and got the tram (Rileys first tram ride). And I quickly settled into my maternity leave. The weather for March in Switzerland was beautiful and we went on our first walk in the pram the next day.
For the rest of the month, Jareds mother came to stay with us and Riley got plenty of attention between the three of us. I took the opportunity to also show her all the best brunch and afternoon tea spots in town.
Luckily, Riley is a very calm baby so far...he sleeps anywhere, doesn't mind getting changed, and loves his baths.
