Family Beach Vacation - Menorca, Spain
I am a firm believer in a solid week at the beach at least once a year. Nothing beats a week at the beach. We saved ours for September - when the ocean is warm from the summer, its still warm out, and the tourist crowds have dissipated for the most part. Its the perfect time to go.
Both Jared and I are obsessed with all things Spain. So stopping by Palma de Mallorca, the main town in Mallorca, on a day stopover (that's all that is needed), we then headed to Menorca which is supposed to be much more remote. Well, I can say the beaches didn't disappoint. We opted to stay on the beach at a nice hotel in Cala Galdana which was great but also had its downfall, as the small town made for less food options (no glorious Spanish foods was a real let down). But the ocean was crystal clear and the beach was perfect for swimming.
Even better was the five or so unspoilt beaches on either side within a 5k hike. The unspoilt beaches were nothing short of spectacular. Easy to see why there isn't so much development on the beaches and if I go back I will definitely stay at a nice estate just a little off the beach. A short 15 minute hike or bike ride inland is just as nice.
A beach vaca was also a great choice with a baby. Sooo easy. Grab a beach umbrella (you can buy one at the beach for a couple of euro, rather than bring one) and towels and you are sorted. While he wasn't yet big enough for any kids clubs, Riley played in the sand for hours at a time. We used plastic bottles or containers, anything we had on hand, rather than dragging tons of toys. He also loved the water and we let him sit with us at the edge of the water at the end of the afternoon to wash off all the sand from the day. And he loved the evening music at the beach bar. Easy like Sunday morning...
