Busy Season
The last couple of weeks have been slow as we have been busy with busy season. It is weird to call July busy season or winter! The weather has been great. It seems that the worst weather is fall..May and June when we get a lot of rain. But now the sun has been shining and the temps have even hit 25C (70F). It still seems like a great time to enjoy the outdoors and the ocean.
In June, Jared got an opportunity to go deep sea fishing with his mates. We cooked up the fish that night for dinner...and it was delicious.
Then July has been spent with numerous snorkeling trips at Shelly Beach. The ocean has turned cold but nothing that a wetsuit can't fix. We have spotted several new fish which frequent in the winter including port jackson sharks, cuttle fish, scorpion fish, and a few others that we are still trying to name.
We also went on our first whale watching trip. Whale migrating season is from May - November and depending on the month, depends on what whales will be passing through. We saw humpback whales...and lots of them! It was the perfect picture taking opportunity for Katie. We may jump on a few more trips during our time here to see some other types of whales. Sometimes you can see them from Manly beach but we haven't spotted any yet. This morning we did spot some dolphins in Manly beach, though. There have been a few spottings and we were so excited to finally see them! They love to play among the surfers and boats.
The Penguins are also back in Manly. They come from July - Feb when the water temps are at the coldest. By July, the winter weather has chilled the water from the summer and by Feb the water starts warming up again from all the warm weather.
While we have been enjoying ourselves outdoors and busy season keeps us busy at work during the week, we have managed to keep it rather low key during the weekends catching up with friends and a few new movies. Jared still plays soccer every saturday and they are gearing up for the playoffs. Katie has kept busy too training for the City to Surf run next weekend (a 14k run). We hope that things will calm down at work soon and we will have more time to enjoy some more of our favorite activities in August.
