Gold Coast Marathon
Jared went up to the Gold Coast for work. Although for work, he didnt really get to see the sights. Katie headed there over the weekend with several girls from work. Natalie, Sophie, Maggie and Katie all ran the half marathon while Beth & Phillipa and their boys aimed for the marathon. All of them are seasoned runners except for Katie who was running her first half marathon. With the race, they didn't get to do much sightseeing either.
I guess it was the adrenalin that did it but Katie made it through the race and felt great...a little sore the next day, all despite not as much training as needed given our June holiday in WA. A bit slow at 2 hours 15 minutes but still a huge accomplishment and way better than expected. Maybe the bridge run in September will be a little faster.
We all got some apartments and prepared a huge pasta and carb fiest for saturday night. Then Sunday it was a 430 am wake up call for the 6am race (it is hard enough to get Katie up at 7am for work let alone for a 21k run in the freezing cold!). But afterwards, we all recharged with some burgers before catching our flights home. Then Jared came through in the clutch that evening home in manly and treated me to some thai and ben & jerrys ice cream (my top favs!).
