Barcelona and The Coasta Brava
Barcelona, a hot spot on the Europe tour list and it doesnt disappoint. A proper beach town with plenty of beach chairs, a hopping modern seaside harbour, authentic spanish apartments with long windy alley ways straight to the sea, a charming gothic center and hillsides all around. We spent four days here and could have stayed a whole week. Our friends Matt, Jenn and their little Maddie joined us which is always a pleasure.
We spent the days exploring the city sights such as all of Gaudis architectural highlights, views from the Olympics hillsides, art museums, food markets, shopping and long lovely lunches. Then the arvo was for siestas...plenty of lounging by the beach or the rooftop pool with cocktails and occasional dips in the Mediterranean sea.
But the evenings were my favorite part...heading out around 10pm for some delicious spanish tapas and drinks. So simple and so good.
After a few days in Barcelona, we grabbed a car and headed up the coast. The Coasta Brava is a rocky coastline with some beautiful views. We stayed in Tossa De Mar, with a windy road hanging our to sea and lined with cafes and two beaches on either side. Our hotel couldnt be better with a pool, views of the beach, and a great cafe for drinking sangria and the views. After beach time, sangrias, and tapas, we explored on foot and got lost amongst the old fort and city walls. The best gem of the whole trip.
