London Olympics
It didnt take much for Jared to sell me on the idea of heading to London for a week to catch the Olympics. I have never been to London and I love the Olympics.
We entered the lottery last year and entered into a lot of tickets. Thank god we did not get them all or we would have had to take out a loan. But we ended up with the best...Beach Volleyball!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It wasnt the finals but we saw the USA mens and womens play. I missed Misty May and Kerri Walsh which would have been a dream come true. We also got Track and Field, soccer, and white water rafting. But there was plenty of free spots to watch the cycling along the road or view the games in the city parks. It was great to experience and of course I loved the games but I must say that it is actually better to watch on tv. We had great seats but you dont get the same up close excitement as on tv.
I was also excited for exploring London while we were there but I underestimated how much Jared L.O.V.E.S the Olympices. My god, what was I thinking?? How could we possibly go to the museum when there is sports on. This boy has an obsession. We comprimised and did half and half...so I didnt get to do everything I planned.
But we got to see some top spots...shopping in Oxford, Traffalger Square, Buckingham Palace and the changing of the guards, Kensington Palace, the British Museum, National Gallery,a boat trip to Greenwich, London Bridge, St Pauls, Shakespeares Globe, and Shrek the Musical in Londons West End. Plus our English expat friends in Sydney bought us tickets to the London Eye and Claridges afternoon champagne and tea.
My favorites would be all the amazing parks, Big Ben & Westminster, London Eye (which we timed perfectly to see a beautiful sunset over the city), Claridges Tea (sandwiches, scones, and the best tea I have ever had!) and the tour of the Tower of London (which includes a look at the Crown Jewels...ridiculousness!).
The best part of London though is our friends. Many of our English expat friends have moved back to England. So it was great to meet up with them and friends from the US who were also there. Proper english pubs (Cider!) and delicious Indian or Bangladesh curries. We searched out some amazing food haunts including a michilan star Chinese restaurant. I was loving it.

Our last weekend, we headed to Newbury just south of the city to spend with one of our best friends Garry and Louise. We spent many trips with them back in Australia and had another hectic weekend planned. Garry played tour guide and drove us to Bath and Stonehenge, England classics.
Bath was beautiful. Bigger than what I thought with gorgeous architecture and lots of cafes and shops. We had time for a tour of the roman baths, a walk around the town, a pub lunch, and a chocolate cafe. Then it was off to Stonehenge for a tour of the grounds. The tour was very interesting and it all left me very satisfied with the week.
