Honeymoon crashing in Lisbon

The last month has been very busy and we have been gone nearly every weekend.  But when our friends from Australia, who were on their honeymoon in Europe, asked us to meet them in Lisbon for the weekend, we jumped at the chance.  I haven't been to Portugal yet but more importantly, we haven't seen them for a few years.

Its a cool little city for the weekend...a castle with beautiful panorama views over the city and harbour, tram rides around the city, extraordinary tiling and mosaics covering the buildings, and small cafes serving cheap but good food and great wine. Every night after gorging ourselves, I ended the night with a few glasses of amazing Port wine...something I could get used to and I wish I would have brought a few bottles back with me.  I also found the best churro I have ever had at a little street stall by our hotel.

There are also plenty of day trips easily accessible from Lisbon from beaches to castles.  As we only had a weekend, we had to choose just one.  We left the decision up to the newlyweds who wanted to go to Sintra, with a multitude of castles strung across the steep and narrow hills of Serra de Sintra.

I know it is really horrible to say but after living in Europe for a few years, I have start to become bored of castles and churches. They are everywhere, literally. Every town has at least one. And how much different could they really be from the next?

But the castles in Sintra were beautiful (and different) but also the views from the hill tops were great too.
