Long Island, Whitsundays

We have been in Aus for six months now and it was time for a little vacay - but we only had a long weekend.  Our friends were headed to the Whitsundays so we decided to tag along.  We have been there before but there are so many islands and holiday options. We have done the main island, Hamilton, and a boat trip so this time we were staying at Long Island - just one resort on the whole island!  And while its only a two hour flight from Sydney and a short boat ride for a 4 day weekend - it felt like we were a million miles away in paradise.

Its an old Peppers Resort so the accommodation is intimate and beautiful. But the new owners no longer run the restaurant so cooking now is up to you using the bbqs by the pool or in your own beachfront bungalow (groceries can be pre-delivered). We ate like kings too without the pretentiousness of a five start resort restaurant.

The beach was nice with a little reef - we saw a few reef sharks even from the shore.  And the resort had kayaks and paddleboards for use.  You can also take a hike around the island to one of the many other secluded beaches. (Although its best to go before stinger season so you don't have to wear a stinger suit in the ocean.)

Riley loved the cockatoos, wild turkeys and wallabies everywhere.  I loved the hammock on our porch.

But Rileys favourite was definitely the pool and my favourite was having cocktails by the pool.  We packed our own blow up lilos in our suitcases and were ready to go.

This is definitely a place I want to come back to.
