Appenzell
Appenzell...the perfect picture of Heidi land. It is quitessential rolling green hills dotted with tiny villages, cows, and sheep. And home to the Appenzell brewery and Appenzell cheese factory. Perfect day trip. Its only about 2 hours east of Zurich.
The town itself is very cute and an easy walk around. Lots of shops and restaurants to keep you busy.
The brewery is top notch too with interactive displays and beer tastings. With the variety they have you could be there awhile too. The cheese factory includes a tour which is nominally interesting if you dont know anything about cheese making. But soaking in the views of the gorgeous farmland on the ride is worth it alone.
