A Little Layover

For our last big trip in the northern hemisphere, we wanted to try and catch the northern lights.  You never know how it will be so we booked an entire week in a nice lodge in Lapland, Finland. First though, we had to get there.

The mother in law was joining us and when she comes, we always have surprises for her. So we hopped our first leg from Zurich to London, where we had a layover.  It wasn't until we were headed through customs, that she realized it was a THREE DAY layover.

It just so happens that London has been her dream and despite living in Europe for four years we have never managed to take her there. So a few tears were shed.  Might just be her favourite surprise yet (lets be honest it was way better than volcano trekking on Christmas Day or swimming with sharks...but we like to keep her young).

I was also a bit excited for one more trip to London and a few of my favourite things...

  • High Tea with Champagne - Mad Hatters High Tea and even Riley enjoyed the quail egg and caviar
  • Lunch with A View at Sky Garden
  • Indian - Brunch and Dinner at Dishoom (had to get our fill)
  • The Markets - Borough Markets for delicious treats
  • A classic pub lunch
I managed to fit in as much as possible in three days, considering we had to hit all the sites (Buckingham Palace, a service at Westminster Abbey, Tower Bridge, London Tower, Horseguards Parade and even a double decker bus ride).
